Tim Horton’s Burning Cup Gestapo!

Alright so here is the deal, on September 18, 2009 I took a brand new”* TIM HORTON’S coffee cup and filled it with Tim Horton’s coffee, creamer and sugar! I stirred the cup as usual. Walked over 3 bays down to my Quality Control Department at work and put the cup in a small white Panasonic MICROWAVE for 50 seconds on hi.

I then walked away from the microwave, only to return to a room filled with smoke, and a smell that tested the whole shop. The cup itself in the microwave, filled with coffee, creamer, and sugar… all generously provided by Tim Horton’s, had started burning from the bottom up!

OUTRAGEOUS right? or is it?

On September 18 2009, I proceeded to call Tim Horton’s Compliance department, who then took my information, and informed me that their CUPS ARE 1 TIME USE ONLY AND NON MICROWAVABLE. The lady then informed me that she would be sending a district manager from Calgary to my work in Edmonton to pick up the cup and send it out to their quality assurance center. So i waited.

On September 21 2009, I received a call from A district manager names Stepha, who then asked me to meet her at the Location where the coffee was Purchased at 10:00am Tuesday September 22.09. I agreed and waited some more.

On September 22 2009, I left work with my video camera, recorded myself outside of the TIM HORTON’S with the cup, commenting on all my actions to come. (in case i needed evidence!) I then proceed into the TIM HORTON’S, where i met with Stepha. We sat down quickly and exchanged short conversation regarding the burnt cup. Even she was shocked by the burnt cup! Extremely apologetic about the situation, she then admitted that she knew about the cups burning a bit if they had been microwaved for any length of time. She even admitted to doing it herself! reminding me that she could not do so in an industrial microwave since it would just flare up faster! hrmmm… i Stopped to think. Left the cup with Stepha to be sent out to Quality assurance. Again I found myself waiting, and still nothing.

On September 30th 2009. My phone rang! from a private number of course, so I let it leave a voice mail… Which I am glad I have recorded! Which basically told me that MICROWAVES come with a manual that states not to heat up foods in paper products. TIM HORTON’S CUPS are 1 time use only, and that she couldn’t do anything for me at a store level.
but wait… She then told me she would contact the marketing department and that i should also call them. Here we go!

I quickly phoned Stepha back on her “cell” phone at my earliest convenience. I left a voice-mail that said, I will require that the burnt cup be returned to me as soon as possible.” in addition to a few polite and friendly gestures.
At 3:00pm Stepha then returned my call again, this time i answered. She said she will wait to hear from Quality Assurance to return her request for the cup to return to her. And so I wait. Although, here i am.

Is this quality assurance program going to turn out to be the quality assurance GESTAPO? that will silence my concern? That will try to hush my freedom to inquire into the safety of this MARKETING PRODUCT that they sell their coffee in? Stay Tuned

October 09, 2009, I arrive home shortly after 4PM on an unseasonably cold day to find a small brown box sitting behind a cooler that I am using as a front step for the time being. FINALLY the Tim Horton’s BURN cup and letter summarizing Tim Hortons Policy on the use of the take out paper cups. To my surprise the Summary sent to me by Kelly Kleinschmidt of the Quality Assurance Department for the TDL GROUP CORP, did not address my concerns.

And I Quote, “We would like to take this opportunity to address your concerns regarding the re-heating of our take out paper cups.” Kelly Kleinschmidt of the TDL GROUP CORP.

ARE YOUR SERIOUS!!!

Then she proceeds to re-peat the statement again!

“Tim Hortons hot beverage take out cups are a single service paper item designed for immediate use and are not recommended for re-use in anyway. Kelly Kleinschmidt of the TDL GROUP COR

IS ANYONE EVEN LISTENING TO ME!

So I call 1-888-601-1616 immediately and left a very particular voice-mail which included the concern for the letter that had been written to me, the ignorance in the letter, and finally my ultimatum to prove a valuable point.  Did I mention that i specifically called out miss or mrs. KELLY KLIENSCHMIDT?  Now what do I do?
